The Lusitania was called a "floating palace". It left New York on May 1, 1915, and it was sunk by a German U-Boat on May 7. It was a British ship, and the Germans accused the British of using it to carry ammunition. 1,195 died and 123 of them were US citizens. Many people of the US wanted immediate retaliation on the Germans. Many claim that the Lusitania was the final event that caused the US to join the war, although the US didn't join until two years later.
